About the Role

The University of Sussex Admissions Office is seeking an organized and proactive Senior Admissions Coordinator to support the efficient management of the University’s postgraduate taught admissions process.

Working as part of a team of three Senior Coordinators, you will ensure the prompt, accurate, and fair selection of applicants. Your responsibilities will include overseeing daily postgraduate admissions activities, checking and approving decisions, and providing expert guidance to Admissions Coordinators and Academic Reviewers.

You will also take ownership of specific functions within the admissions cycle, helping to motivate staff and deliver an excellent applicant experience — from initial enquiry to enrolment.

This role is based within a friendly and busy office of around 40 staff, divided across Undergraduate Admissions, Postgraduate Admissions, and Scholarships, and overseen by the Associate Director (Global Admissions).

Key Responsibilities

Manage and oversee key aspects of the postgraduate taught admissions process.

Review, check, and approve application decisions, ensuring accuracy and fairness.

Provide advice and support to Admissions Coordinators and Academic Reviewers.

Take the lead on designated areas within the admissions cycle, including applicant communication, system updates, or process improvement.

Monitor workloads, support staff motivation, and ensure service standards are met.

Liaise effectively with applicants, academic staff, and other university departments.

Ensure compliance with University policies and external regulations, including UKVI and Student Visa requirements.

About You

You will be a confident communicator with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Essential skills and experience include:

Proven experience in admissions or similar administrative roles, ideally within higher education.

Strong understanding of UK, EU, and international qualifications and admissions processes.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a customer-focused approach.

Experience working with diverse and international applicants, including those whose first language is not English.

Knowledge of UKVI and Student Visa processes.

(Desirable) Familiarity with fee status classification and assessment.

You will enjoy working collaboratively within a team environment while being capable of taking initiative and working independently when needed.
