Job Description
Vacancy at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Surgical Emergency Assessment Unit at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital. We are looking for a Band 5 nurse to support our 7-day service for acutely unwell surgical patients. The Cheerful Sparrows Female ward specializes in surgical and orthopedic care, so while some basic knowledge in these areas is recommended, it is not essential.
In this role, you will provide clinical and professional care within the CSF, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team. You will be responsible for caring for a variety of surgical and orthopedic patients throughout the day, performing nurse-led assessments, and recognizing signs of patient deterioration. The unit’s acuity levels can change rapidly, so effective prioritization of your workload is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of both yourself and the patients.
You will also assist patients in preparing for surgery, providing pre-operative care, and facilitating safe discharges and appropriate hospital admissions when necessary.
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, operating five hospitals and community clinics that serve a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is to provide “great healthcare from great people,” guided by our values: “People feel cared for, safe, respected, and confident that we are making a difference.” At East Kent Hospitals, we have introduced a new approach called “We Care,” which empowers frontline staff to lead improvements daily. We are looking for compassionate individuals to join us on our journey to improve the care we provide to our patients, families, and carers.
