Band 5 Senior Pharmacy Technician – Pharmacy Technical Services Unit

The Pharmacy Technical Services Unit at Royal Cornwall Hospital is seeking to appoint a Band 5 Senior Pharmacy Technician. This post is also available as a development opportunity, where newly or recently qualified technicians can join as a Band 4 to Band 5 Senior Pharmacy Technician, with a starting salary of £26,530. Full training will be provided to support your professional development in this specialist area of pharmacy.
About the Role
In this vital role, you will join a dedicated team responsible for preparing essential medicines for patients, including injectable treatments such as chemotherapy, radiopharmaceuticals, intravenous nutrition, and other life-saving therapies. You will also support the Lead Operations Technician in managing the Unit and assist the Lead Training Technician in supervising and training other technical staff.
Working under the direction of the Lead Technicians, you will coordinate the day-to-day activities within the Pharmacy Technical Services Unit, ensuring all aspects of the service meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. This includes overseeing the preparation of sterile products, supporting radiopharmaceutical manufacturing, and contributing to non-sterile manufacturing services.
You will be responsible for checking and approving batches of medicines prepared under the Medicines Act 1968, Section 10 exemption for individual patients. In addition, you will supervise a team of technicians and pharmacy assistants, ensuring that services are delivered safely, efficiently, and within required timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of injectable and sterile medicines, including chemotherapy and radiopharmaceuticals.
Support the day-to-day management of the Pharmacy Technical Services Unit.
Supervise and train junior staff, ensuring adherence to GMP standards.
Act as a validated dispenser for the manufacture of sterile and non-sterile products.
Conduct batch checking and product approval after completing specialist training (PIPC and PAAP).

Requirements:
Full professional registration as a pharmacy technician.
Previous experience in a technical pharmacy role is desirable, but we are also open to newly qualified technicians looking to develop their skills.
