The Role

The University of Sussex is seeking a skilled Data Architect to support its digital transformation and contribute to delivering the Sussex 2035 strategy.

This role focuses on helping the University structure, manage, and unlock the value of its data to benefit researchers, students, and staff. The postholder will:

Design and develop data models, mappings, standards, and products.

Support data migration, integration, reporting, and analytics projects.

Contribute to the University’s adoption of advanced data technologies, including AI.

Collaborate with business stakeholders, Business Analysts, IT Services colleagues, and other University teams to advance data-focused initiatives.

Please note: This is not a Data Engineering role.

About You

You will bring:

Demonstrable experience as a Data Architect (or equivalent role).

Strong knowledge of data-related solutions, models, and best practice approaches.

Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.

Experience using data processing, reporting, and analytics tools.

Familiarity with standards and frameworks such as Entity Relationship Modelling, DAMA-DMBOK, ArchiMate, BPMN, DMN, TOGAF, and related modelling tools (desirable).

The University’s IT Services & Sussex Projects Division, led by the Chief Digital Technology Officer, is driving an ambitious digital transformation programme supported by senior leadership. Key initiatives include:

Major estate renewal and new student accommodation.

A full network replacement project to deliver state-of-the-art digital infrastructure.

Development of a fully data-enabled organization.
