Job Overview
The Cardiology department at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), part of the HGS hospitals network, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our team in the Cardiac Catheter Lab. The role will involve working across our three hospital sites: Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull, and Good Hope Hospitals. Role Overview
As a Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Cardiac Catheter Lab, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering specialist nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional procedures. You will also be responsible for providing patient education, working closely with acute medical teams, and supporting patients and their families throughout their care journey.

Key Responsibilities

Patient-Centered Care: Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout their procedures.

Specialist Care: Assist in the delivery of specialized nursing care within the cardiac catheter lab, including diagnostic imaging, interventional procedures, and post-procedure care.

Collaboration: Work closely with other medical teams and share knowledge with patients, families, and colleagues to enhance patient care.

On-Call & Rotational Work: Participate in weekend and overnight on-call shifts at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital as required.

Clinical Competence: Develop and maintain skills in advanced cardiac care techniques, including those specific to the catheter lab setting.

Main Duties and Skills Required

Clinical Excellence: Perform patient assessments and plan, implement, and evaluate care interventions in the cardiac catheter lab.

Knowledge Sharing: Support and educate patients and families about their care and procedures, providing reassurance and answering queries.

Safety & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, health and safety guidelines, and safe medication administration practices.

Teamwork: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, healthcare assistants, and other nursing staff, to provide optimal care for patients.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

Registered Adult Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Evidence of ongoing professional development and competence.

Ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.

Experience

Essential:

Previous experience or placement in an acute secondary NHS care setting, with exposure to cardiac care or relevant specialties.

Demonstrable achievements in career development and professional growth.

Experience in both independent and team working environments, including supervision of junior staff.

Willingness to become a practice supervisor/assessor for student nurses as per NMC requirements.

Knowledge of the NMC Code of Conduct and the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity.

Skills

Essential:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Positive, enthusiastic, and caring attitude towards patients and colleagues.

Ability to work flexibly, including nights, weekends, and unsocial hours.

Willingness to adapt to different practice settings as required.
