Role Overview
Brighton and Sussex Medical School is looking for an Anatomy Facility Manager to lead and manage the delivery of high-quality technical services in anatomy. You will play a central role in supporting the teaching of over 1,000 students each year while ensuring the facility provides excellent support for both teaching and research activities.
You will oversee the day-to-day running of the Anatomy Facility, ensuring it operates efficiently, remains compliant with legislation, and meets the needs of staff, students, and visitors. Alongside operational management, you will also focus on continuous improvement, innovation, and income generation to further develop the facility’s resources and services.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the daily operation of the anatomy teaching and research facilities.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (including the Human Tissue Act 2004), university regulations, and health and safety standards.
Line-manage and support the technical team, including staff training and development planning.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, documentation, and risk assessments.
Oversee equipment maintenance, servicing, and replacement planning.
Contribute to health and safety committees and ensure best practice in safety compliance.
Work collaboratively with academic, technical, and administrative colleagues to deliver seamless service.
Develop strategies for income generation, including partnerships with external organizations.
Deliver and support training for staff, students, and visitors using the facilities.
About You
Essential:
Educated to degree level (Level 6) or equivalent.
Strong practical knowledge of anatomical facilities, procedures, and techniques.
Experience managing facilities or services, including staff supervision and team leadership.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to clearly explain policies and procedures to a wide range of audiences.
Strong planning, organization, and project management skills, with the ability to priorities and delegate effectively.
Experience with data handling and administrative systems.
Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance frameworks relevant to anatomy.
Desirable:
Postgraduate qualification or further study.
Knowledge of higher education environments and university systems.
Understanding of financial regulations and experience in generating income or managing budgets.
Experience developing strategic partnerships.
