About the Role

The University of Sussex is seeking an experienced Data Architect to play a key role in shaping the University’s data-driven future. This is a re-advertisement; previous applicants need not reapply. (Please note: this is not a Data Engineering role).

In this role, you will:

Develop and maintain data models, mappings, standards, and products.

Support and lead initiatives in data migration, integration, reporting, and analytics.

Contribute to advancing the University’s data and AI strategies.

Collaborate with stakeholders across the University, including Business Analysts, IT Services, and academic colleagues, to unlock the value of data.

Play an integral part in Sussex 2035, our long-term strategy to build a fully data-enabled organization.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

Demonstrable experience as a Data Architect (or in a similar role).

Strong understanding of data-related solutions, models, and approaches.

Excellent business and data analysis skills, with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.

Practical experience in data processing, reporting, and analytics tools.

Knowledge of the following would be advantageous:

Entity Relationship Modelling

Architecture and process standards such as DAMA-DMBOK, Archimate, BPMN, DMN, TOGAF

Experience with data modelling tools

The role sits within IT Services & Sussex Projects, led by the Chief Digital Technology Officer. The University is undergoing a major digital transformation programme, backed by senior leadership and investment.

This includes:

Modernising infrastructure with a network replacement project.
