About the Role
This is a joint academic-clinical appointment across the Department of Obstetrics, Genecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Auckland and Te Whatu Ora – Waitematā.
The successful candidate will split their time equally between:
Academic responsibilities: Leading innovative research in obstetrics and gynaecology, supervising postgraduate students, and contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Clinical responsibilities: Providing high-quality obstetric care at Waitakere Hospital, participating in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services, contributing to clinical leadership, on-call rosters, and service improvement initiatives.
This role offers a unique opportunity to combine research, teaching, and clinical practice to improve maternal health outcomes, particularly for diverse communities in the Waitematā region.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to research in obstetrics and genecology, including clinical and translational studies.
Supervise postgraduate students and support academic development.
Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Provide clinical care across the maternity pathway, contributing to rostering, leadership, and service improvement.
Promote equitable health outcomes, particularly for Māori, Pacific, and underserved populations.
Collaborate effectively across academic and clinical teams to integrate research, education, and patient care.
About You
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or eligibility to obtain).
Fellowship with RANZCOG (or equivalent specialist qualification).
A PhD or MD, or significant research experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Proven ability to lead or contribute to high-quality clinical or translational research.
Experience teaching and mentoring medical students and trainees.
Strong collaborative, culturally responsive, and equity-focused approach.
You should be motivated to advance maternal health outcomes, contribute to research innovation, and engage in teaching and clinical excellence.
