Job Description

Role Overview

We are looking for a Product Development Leader to drive the creation of future products for Dowty Propellers. You will lead the full lifecycle of product development, from early technology and capability maturation through to qualification and certification. Working closely with business strategy, you will define technology and product roadmaps, execute projects and demonstrator programmes, and ensure new product introductions meet customer needs.

Leading a team of technology specialists and engineering project managers, you will build capability across the engineering function while ensuring delivery excellence and technical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain product and technology roadmaps aligned with customer, industry, and market requirements.

Build execution plans that balance investment, resources, and priorities, ensuring alignment with programme management and wider business objectives.

Lead, support, and grow the product development team, including recruitment, career development, mentoring, and performance management.

Work with engineering discipline leaders to ensure the right resource plans are in place to meet business goals.

Collaborate with technical authorities to align on best practices, expertise, and technical direction.

Champion technical excellence, driving continuous improvement in processes and practices.

Provide financial oversight, including budgeting, project spend, and approvals.

Promote Lean principles and lead improvement activities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Report regularly on project progress, risks, opportunities, and business issues.

Contribute as a member of the engineering leadership team to strengthen processes and support overall business performance.

Required Qualifications

Significant experience in engineering, technology, or functional leadership, ideally at master’s degree level or equivalent professional experience.

Proven background in engineering product development within aerospace or a similarly regulated industry (UKCAA/EASA Part-21 experience desirable).

Strong technical knowledge of complex systems (mechanical, control, electronic systems; hydro-mechanical systems advantageous).

Experience with technology roadmapping and capability maturation.

Demonstrated project management and programme leadership skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.

Strong problem-solving skills with a structured approach.
