The Role
The University of Sussex Business School, through the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU), is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in Energy Policy Studies / Energy and Climate Policy on the Education and Scholarship pathway.
The successful candidate will work with colleagues to deliver and develop teaching across both the MSc Energy and Climate Policy (on-campus) and the MSc Energy and Climate Policy (online distance learning) programmes.
Teaching responsibilities will include modules such as:
Energy Justice
Energy and Economic Growth
Introduction to Energy Policy
Energy and Sustainability
Governing Energy Transitions
In addition, the role involves contributing to curriculum development, supervising students, creating high-quality learning materials, and engaging in wider teaching and academic activities to support the School’s commitment to research-informed, world-class education.
About You
Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and have proven experience in interdisciplinary, social science-based teaching in areas related to energy and climate policy. A strong understanding of contemporary debates, challenges, and issues in energy policy is essential, with the ability to integrate perspectives from fields such as:
Energy transitions
Energy justice
Energy sustainability
Applicants must demonstrate:
A strong track record of excellent teaching and student engagement.
Experience in postgraduate-level teaching and assessment.
Interest in innovative teaching practices and pedagogies.
Flexibility in adapting teaching content for diverse student audiences.
Commitment to fostering critical thinking, discussion, and collaboration.
Experience in online and blended learning, along with enthusiasm for cross-disciplinary teaching, will be highly valued.
