Job Description

About the Role

The University of Aberdeen invites applications for a Lecturer in Neuroimmunology, funded by the local charity Saving Sight in Grampian (SSIG).

This is an excellent opportunity for an independent and innovative immunologist with interests in the mechanisms linking immunity, inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases. Relevant conditions may include (but are not limited to) Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

While direct experience in neurodegeneration is an advantage, it is not essential. We welcome applications from immunologists bringing fresh, imaginative approaches to understanding how immunity and inflammation disrupt normal physiology and contribute to neurodegenerative disease.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking an imaginative, ambitious researcher who can build a strong research programme in neuroimmunology. Areas of particular interest include:

Innate and adaptive immune responses in neurodegeneration

Inflammation and its regulation in ageing, autophagy, metabolism, genomics, and protein/lipid turnover

Mechanistic insights into how immune processes contribute to chronic neurodegenerative conditions

The role is appointable at Lecturer (Grade 7), with the starting point on the salary scale dependent on qualifications and experience, in line with the University’s Pay Policy
