About the Role
We are seeking a Technical Supervisor to support research activities within our expanding facilities at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). You will take primary responsibility for:
Managing and maintaining tissue culture suites and microbiology laboratories
Overseeing a rapidly expanding Tissue Bank and its associated sample database
Supporting the Technical Services Manager with health & safety and regulatory compliance
This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a diverse research portfolio and to play a key part in the delivery of high-quality technical support in a medical research environment.
About You
We are looking for a proactive, motivated, and well-organized individual with excellent communication and teamwork skills. You should be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond flexibly to a variety of requests.
Essential skills and experience include:
Educated to Master’s level (or equivalent)
Extensive experience in mammalian cell culture techniques
Strong background in molecular biology
Experience processing and analyzing human tissue samples
Sound knowledge of laboratory health & safety (biological and chemical hazards)
Experience in maintaining and setting up databases (preferably using specialist software)
Understanding of the Human Tissue Act relating to acquisition and storage of samples
Desirable:
Experience in laboratory management or supervision
This role is well suited to an experienced scientist seeking to develop a technical career in research management.
