Job Description

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled External Relations and Events Manager to strengthen the National Heart & Lung Institute’s external profile and partnerships. Reporting to the Head of Institute (HoI) and Director of Operations (DoO), you will manage the HoI’s external activities, oversee key relationships, and develop new collaborations with industry, academia, charitable foundations, and the NHS.

A core part of the role will be designing, planning, and delivering high-profile events that connect NHLI with influential stakeholders, helping to expand partnerships and increase the Institute’s impact and visibility.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate the HoI’s external engagements, including her roles as Editor-in-Chief of JAMA and President of the Leducq Foundation.

Act as the primary contact for industry, academic, NHS, and charitable partners.

Research and assess new partnership opportunities, providing strategic advice and recommendations.

Lead the planning and delivery of internal and external events to showcase NHLI’s work.

Strengthen and expand NHLI’s external collaborations in line with the Institute’s strategic goals.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

Proven experience supporting senior leaders in complex organizations, ideally within higher education or research.

Strong project and event management skills, with a track record of delivering high-quality outcomes.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all levels.

The ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and deliver against tight deadlines.

Further Information

This role is full-time (35 hours per week) and fixed-term for 24 months, based primarily on-site at Hammersmith Campus with some flexibility for hybrid working.
