About the Role

We are seeking an Assistant Professor in Social Work to contribute to teaching, research, and leadership within the School of Education and Social Work.

Your responsibilities will include:

Teaching: Delivering high-quality teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate social work programmers, childhood and youth courses, and CPD programmers. You will also support a small group of academic advisees, including during practice placements.

Research: Conducting and publishing research aligned with one of the University’s research centers (e.g., CIRCY). You are expected to contribute to REF2029 and secure research funding or knowledge exchange income.

Leadership/Service: Taking on a course leadership role in Social Work or Childhood and Youth programmes. This includes working closely with practice partners and experts by experience across statutory and voluntary sectors.

Mentorship will be provided to support your development in research, teaching, and leadership.

About You

Qualified Social Worker with a PhD and registration (or eligibility to register) with Social Work England.

Specialism in work with children, young people, and families; a background in youth work is desirable.

Strong interpersonal, organizational, and administrative skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and with external stakeholders.

Commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice in teaching, research, and professional engagement.

Evidence of teaching excellence, research outputs, and/or grant capture appropriate to career stage.
