About the Role

The Department of Media Arts at Royal Holloway, University of London is seeking to appoint a part-time Lecturer in Cinematography to teach on the BA Film, Television and Digital Production degree. This is a fixed-term, one-year role at 0.5 FTE, based on our Egham campus.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a diverse, creative team that combines academic expertise with professional practice. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and curriculum development, supporting students to become the next generation of visual storytellers.

Key Responsibilities

Teach cinematography and camera-based modules on the BA Film, Television and Digital Production programme.

Contribute to the design and delivery of course content.

Provide academic and practical support to students from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Share expertise in digital and/or analogue camera and lighting technologies.

Where relevant, bring additional skills in areas such as live streaming, web content, virtual production, colour grading, or editing.

Maintain an industry profile and professional practice through the Professional Practice academic pathway.

Draw on professional networks to support student employability and enhance industry links.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Professional experience as a cinematographer (features, shorts, or promotional projects).

Knowledge of a range of camera and lighting systems.

Desirable: Experience with live streaming, web production, virtual production, or post-production tools.

Ideally, experience teaching cinematography in higher education (training will be provided if needed).

Strong communication, organizational, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to inspire and engage students and work collaboratively with colleagues.
