Hours: Full-time up to 1.0 FTE (37.5 hours/week). Flexible working options considered based on business needs.
Salary: Grade 7.4, £42,254 – £46,049 per annum (pro rata if part-time)
Contract Type: Fixed Term (until 31 August 2026)
About the Role
Sussex Law School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated early-career academic to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to teach and assess both undergraduate (LLB) and, where applicable, postgraduate (MA/LLM) students while contributing to the wider life of the School.
This position follows the Education and Scholarship pathway, with responsibilities divided approximately as:
- 60% Teaching – delivering high-quality, inclusive learning experiences
- 20% Scholarship – developing your own research and pedagogic expertise
- 20% Administration and Citizenship – contributing to School initiatives
As a Lecturer A (Grade 7), you will benefit from:
- Reduced teaching load during probation
- Remission to complete a recognised HE teaching qualification if not already held
- Mentoring and research support to develop your academic profile
We are looking for candidates with a strong passion for teaching, commitment to the student experience, and potential to grow as scholars within their sub-discipline.
About You
We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate:
- A PhD in Law and a strong dedication to teaching excellence in higher education
- Ability to engage and inspire students across LLB and postgraduate programmes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support students, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Capability to manage teaching and administrative workloads efficiently while contributing collaboratively to School activities
- Commitment to inclusive teaching practices, responsiveness to student needs, and enhancing the student experience
- Interest in developing scholarship in legal education or your chosen field, with mentoring and support available
