About the Role

The International Programes Manager (Mobility) will play a key role within the Global Strategy, Policy & Engagement team. Reporting to the Deputy Head of International (Engagement and Net Zero), you will manage the Academy’s responsibilities as an endorsing body for the UK Global Talent Visa, with a focus on delivery, compliance, and continuous improvement of the scheme.

In this leadership role, you will also:

Oversee engagement with Fellows and external stakeholders on international mobility and immigration issues.

Line-manage two International Programes Officers to ensure effective delivery of programme objectives.

Collaborate with both internal departments and external partners, including researchers, government bodies, and international institutions.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the British Academy’s delivery of the Global Talent Visa programme, ensuring compliance with UKVI requirements and continuous process improvement.

Lead engagement on policy matters related to international mobility and immigration in the research and innovation sector.

Provide strategic oversight for international mobility initiatives, aligning with the Academy’s broader international goals.

Line-manage and support professional development of two International Programmes Officers.

Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including Fellows, UK government departments, sister academies, and international partners.

Contribute to broader international strategy and programming across the Academy’s activities.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who:

Has strong experience in programme management, ideally in higher education, international research, or public policy environments.

Demonstrates excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.

Is a confident and effective communicator, able to engage with senior stakeholders across academic, policy, and governmental sectors.

Possesses proven leadership skills and experience of managing people and teams.

Can work independently, take initiative, and bring a problem-solving mindset.

Understands the policy landscape relating to immigration, mobility, or global research collaboration (desirable but not essential).

About the Global Strategy, Policy & Engagement Team

The Global Strategy, Policy & Engagement team works to:

Support international collaboration and mobility across the humanities and social sciences.

Maintain relationships with global academic institutions, international organizations, and policy bodies.

Use the Academy’s position and expertise to influence international public policy and research environments.

Deliver a diverse range of multi-year international programes that include funding opportunities, thought leadership events, and global research partnerships.
