Advanced Specialist Midwife – Risk Management / Quality Improvement
- Location: University Hospital Wishaw (Maternity & Neonatal)
- Contract Type: Permanent, Full-time (37 hours per week)
The Role
NHS Lanarkshire is seeking an Advanced Specialist Midwife to lead on Risk Management and Quality Improvement within Women’s Services.
In this role, you will carry ongoing responsibility for the care and management of a defined client group, delivering both direct patient care and specialist clinical leadership. You will plan, implement, and evaluate care within a specialist area of maternity services, ensuring compliance with NHS Lanarkshire policies, professional standards, and statutory requirements set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Working autonomously, you will support safe, effective, and person-centred care while providing expert guidance in risk management and quality improvement.

What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you must have:
- Registered Midwife (Part 10, NMC Register) OR Registered Nurse (Part 1, NMC Register)
- Degree-level education (or working towards/operating at this level)
- Postgraduate expertise in a specialist area of practice with evidence of broad knowledge and leadership capability
- Strong understanding of clinical guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures relevant to maternity and neonatal services
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD), including postgraduate courses or study days
- Leadership and team-working skills, with the ability to motivate others and work independently
- Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
- Effective time management and IT skills
- A full, valid UK/EU/EEA driving licence
Desirable skills include:
- Leadership and counselling experience
- Presentation and training/facilitation skills
