ABOUT The Role
Established in 2006, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) is a joint venture between Xi’an Jiaotong University (China) and the University of Liverpool (UK). It is an international university located in Suzhou, China, offering world-class education that combines Eastern and Western academic traditions.
XJTLU has grown to over 25,000 students and 2,000 staff, half of whom are international. It offers more than 100 degree programs and is at the forefront of educational innovation, particularly through its Syntegrative Education (SE) model and Entrepreneur College (Taicang), designed to prepare students for the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
ABOUT INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS SCHOOL SUZHOU (IBSS)
IBSS is a rapidly growing and internationally recognized business school at XJTLU. It is one of the youngest business schools in the world to achieve Triple Crown Accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA). With over 170 faculty members and 6,000+ students from 60+ countries, IBSS offers undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, PhD, and executive education programs.
The Department of Economics:
Offers BSc in Economics, BSc in Economics & Finance, MSc in Economics & Finance, and MSc in Business Analytics.
Hosts the Research Institute for Economic Integration (RIEI) and research labs in experimental and biometric economics.
Has research strengths in behavioral economics, economic integration, and sustainability.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This is a research-focused faculty position, suitable for candidates with a strong academic record and international research profile in Economics.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct high-quality research, publish in top-ranked journals (ABS3/ABDC A or above).
Apply for internal and external research grants.
Teach across all levels: undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and executive education.
Supervise postgraduate research students.
Contribute to academic leadership and service at departmental, school, or university level.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential (Associate Professor):
PhD in Economics or a closely related field.
University-level teaching experience.
Proven record of publications in reputable journals.
Active research agenda.
Essential (Professor / Senior-level applicants):
Sustained record of high-impact publications.
Successful external research grant funding.
Experience supervising PhD students.
Leadership in academic or professional communities.
Desirable:
Experience in curriculum/programme development.
Research expertise in Econometrics, Digital Economics, or AI applications in Economics.
Engagement with the wider professional or policy community.
