About Us

The School of Applied Sciences at UWE Bristol is one of the UK’s leading centres for healthcare science education. We deliver three BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science Practitioner degree apprenticeship programmes—Physiological Sciences, Clinical Engineering, and Medical Physics Technology. Alongside these, we run commissioned programmes such as the PGCert in Clinical Echocardiography, PGCert in Sleep Medicine, and the Graduate Diploma in Respiratory Science.

Our school has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Biomedical Sciences, and we are currently developing a new MPharm programme, where physiology will play a key role.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Lecturer in Physiology (Respiratory) to contribute to a range of well-established programmes, including:

  • BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Physiological Sciences)
  • BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science
  • Graduate Diploma in Respiratory Science

You will also support the development of new initiatives such as the MPharm course, helping to shape physiology teaching across our portfolio.

This is a full-time, permanent post focused on excellence in teaching and student support. Applicants with significant experience in respiratory science are strongly encouraged to apply. Clinical practice experience will be considered an advantage.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about teaching and advancing education in respiratory physiology. You should have:

  • A PhD in a relevant subject, or a Master’s qualification with substantial professional practice
  • Teaching experience across physiology, with a focus on respiratory science
  • Proven ability to design and deliver innovative teaching materials
  • Experience supervising final-year research projects in physiology

Additional strengths such as module/programme development and experience in clinical practice will be advantageous.

We welcome applications from candidates who share our UWE values—collegiate working, strong leadership, and commitment to staying up to date with sector developments and best practice.

You will be supported by an experienced senior lecturer as a mentor, with access to staff development funding for professional and subject-specific training.
