About the Role

The University of Surrey’s Clinical Psychology Doctorate (PsychD) programme is inviting applications for Associate Tutors (Clinical) to support the development of Trainee Clinical Psychologists throughout their training.

This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the profession by guiding and mentoring trainees through key stages of their clinical and professional development. Associate Tutors provide ongoing support for a consistent group of 4–5 trainees across the three-year programme, offering both individualised feedback and valuable insight into placement progress and competency development.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct twice-yearly mid-placement reviews and end-of-placement meetings with each trainee (held remotely).

Monitor and evaluate trainee progress on clinical competencies and professional development.

Provide feedback and attend meetings with the core programme team at least twice per year (also held remotely).

Participate in induction training during the first year in post.

Engage in available CPD (Continuing Professional Development) opportunities.

Time Commitment:

Approx. 73–85 hours in year one (depending on trainee load).

Approx. 65–77 hours per year in years two and three.

About You

We welcome applications from HCPC-registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologists with the following:

Minimum of two years post-qualification experience in clinical practice, consultation, research, or policy-related roles in sectors such as the NHS, third sector, or social care.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A strong interest in mentoring and supporting trainee development.

Experience supervising clinical psychology trainees is advantageous.

Ability to manage a flexible schedule, with meetings arranged at mutually convenient times with trainees.
