About the Role
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Anatomy Technician to support the delivery of high-quality anatomical education and research. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role working with human cadaveric material under the legal framework of the Human Tissue Act.
You will join an award-winning team that teaches over 1,000 students annually, including those in medicine, allied health, and higher surgical training programmes.
Key responsibilities include:
Preparing human cadaveric specimens for teaching and research
Supporting the day-to-day operations of the Dissecting Room
Ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and legal standards
Contributing to a safe, respectful, and effective learning environment
You will work alongside a supportive and experienced team, including academic staff, the Anatomy Facility Manager, fellow technicians, demonstrators, and administrative staff.
About You
We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented individual with:
Essential:
A qualification at Level 3 (NVQ, BTEC, A-Level, or equivalent)
Strong organisational and communication skills
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team
Good IT skills and the ability to use university systems
Knowledge of the Human Tissue Act (2004) and experience with health and safety regulations
Familiarity with maintaining high technical and compliance standards
Desirable:
Experience in anatomy facilities, embalming, or mortuary/death work
Knowledge of human anatomy
Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional out-of-hours support
