Job Summary
The University of Exeter is seeking a part-time Associate Lecturer in Experimental Archaeology to support teaching and student learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This is a fixed-term appointment available for approximately seven months.
You will contribute to module delivery, student supervision, and curriculum development with a focus on experimental archaeology. This role is primarily teaching-focused and falls under the university’s Education and Scholarship career pathway.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality teaching in Experimental Archaeology using a variety of teaching methods
Supervise and support students in their practical and research projects
Work with physical collections and artefacts for teaching purposes
Collaborate with colleagues to incorporate experimental archaeology into related fields, including forensic science
Assist students in designing and conducting experimental archaeology projects
Contribute to module development and course improvement in the field
Essential Expertise and Experience
In-depth knowledge of experimental archaeology theories and practices
Experience working with artefacts, replicas, and physical archaeological collections
Understanding of open-air or living history museums and their role in experimental research
Practical skills in making lithic tools, cordage, structures, or other ancient technologies
Familiarity with experimental methods involving organic and perishable materials
Ability to integrate experimental archaeology into interdisciplinary teaching, including its application to forensic science
Candidate Requirements
A PhD (or near completion) in Experimental Archaeology or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience
Teaching experience at university level is desirable
Willingness to work toward Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) within two years, if not already held
