Overview:
An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Specialist Rehabilitation Service based at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, Derby. This role is part of our Neurology Rotation, with the initial placement in the Spasticity & Neuro-Splinting Service and the Neuro Outpatient Therapy Team.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist seeking to further develop specialist skills in neurological rehabilitation within a supportive and experienced team.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
-
Assess and treat patients with a range of complex neurological conditions.
-
Develop and implement personalised, goal-oriented rehabilitation programmes.
-
Contribute to our spasticity clinic and fabricate neuro splints.

Provide therapy across outpatient clinics, patients’ homes, community settings, or workplaces as needed.

Perform comprehensive assessments of patients’ physical, cognitive, psychological, and social needs.
-
Work within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to deliver holistic care.

Liaise with external health, social care, and third-sector organizations to ensure coordinated support.

Supervise and support assistants, students, and junior team members as appropriate.

Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to service evaluation and development.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
-
Degree in Occupational Therapy.
-
HCPC registration.
-
Demonstrable post-graduate experience within the NHS.
-
Previous experience in neurology and neurological rehabilitation.
-
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
-
Strong communication and organizational skills.
-
Experience in risk assessment and moving/handling within rehabilitation.
-
Competency in basic wheelchair and seating assessments.
Desirable:
-
UK driving licence.
-
Post-qualification training in neurology.
-
Knowledge of audit processes and outcome measures.
-
Experience in cognitive and perceptual assessments.
-
Skills in fabricating and reasoning splints or casts.
-
Accredited student educator qualification.
