JOB SUMMARY

An intriguing opportunity has arisen to join UHB’s Solihull Community Respiratory Team, which is both innovative and energetic. Working from Solihull Hospital, the postholder will provide assistance for all aspects of the service, including hospital at home, admission avoidance (Virtual Ward), oxygen service (HOSAR), pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), and specialist respiratory nurse-led clinics. This is a community team, and the function requires the postholder to be a car driver/user in order to provide service within the Solihull area.

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist who is passionate about service development and delivering high-quality patient-centered care. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of staff that includes Respiratory Consultants, hospital-based Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Support Workers (TSW), and Occupational Therapists, all of whom are dedicated to maintaining independence, promoting self-care, and assisting patients in their usual residence. The selected candidate will give respiratory intervention as well as assist the multidisciplinary team in assessing and developing a comprehensive management strategy.

Main responsibilities, tasks, and abilities required

The position holder will conduct a specialist assessment of respiratory patients with a variety of presentations and complex physical and psychological issues, and then build and administer a tailored treatment plan based on that assessment. This will encompass individuals with COPD, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, asthma, and palliative care who require oxygen. These assessments will be conducted in both acute and chronic conditions.

Qualifications

Essential

• Diploma or degree in adult nursing
• Currently registered with the NMC.
• Evidence of continuous professional development, especially recent postgraduate coursework related to clinical specialism.

Desirable

• Evidence of leadership training.
• Health Care Assessment Course
• Post-registration Respiratory course (COPD or asthma diploma)

Experience

Essential

• Demonstrates extensive clinical experience, allowing the post-holder to manage a caseload of patients with complicated needs in this area.
• Significant expertise managing a caseload of patients with complicated needs in this field. Minimum 12 months post-registration experience with a broad variety of experience, including respiratory
• Knowledge of COPD NICE and COPD GOLD Guidelines Standards of Care, BTS Pulmonary Rehabilitation Guidelines, and BTS Bronchiectasis Guidelines
• Experience providing guidance and supervision to junior workers, students, and assistants.
• A specialist’s knowledge of a variety of therapeutic methods, both routine and non-routine, necessitates therapy expertise.
• Good understanding of community work.
• Understanding current legislation and its relevance to patient care.

Desirable

• Team/Service Development
• Knowledge About BTS Oxygen Guidelines
• Understanding the Home Oxygen Assessment and Review Service (HOS-AR) guidelines.
• Evidence of audit or R&D activities
