Technical Research Specialist – In Vivo CART Project

Salary:
Grade 6, £33,482 – £37,174 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Technical Research Specialist to support our project focused on the in vivo investigation of CART. You will be managing all technical aspects on behalf of Principal Investigator Karen Keeshan, working in collaboration with Chris Halsey and the company OutFox Bio.
In this position, you will play a key role in designing experiments, maintaining technical resources, and delivering high-quality research outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cancer research within a collaborative and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical components of the research, including designing experiments, setting up protocols, and overseeing specialist equipment.
- Provide advanced expertise in in vivo models and flow cytometry.
- Support and train students or technical staff as required.
- Manage the laboratory’s day-to-day technical operations to ensure efficient and timely delivery of project goals.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and ensure data quality and integrity.
- Conduct complex data analysis, identify trends, and present findings to the research group or in publications.
- Oversee relevant budgets, including purchasing equipment and managing consumables.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintain accurate records, and keep the team updated on any legislative changes.
- Collaborate within the research group and across the College and external partners to support the University’s strategic objectives.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential Qualifications:
- Either proven equivalent experience and expertise gained in a similar role, or SCQF Level 8 qualification (e.g., HND, SVQ Level 4).
- Current Home Office Personal Licence holder or trained.
Desirable:
- MSc or PhD awarded, submitted, or nearing completion in a relevant field.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Significant hands-on experience with in vivo handling of immunocompromised/NSG mice.
- Expert knowledge and technical skills relevant to the project.
- Strong IT skills and proficiency with specialised software tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and adapt to different needs.
- Strong organisational and teamworking abilities, including supervisory skills where appropriate.
- Experience managing budgets and making informed purchasing decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and deliver project objectives within deadlines.
