As an essential local retailer, we are committed to meeting the diverse needs of our customers. We are now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Retail Manager to lead our dedicated team.
The Role
As Retail Manager, you will take full ownership of the day-to-day running of the store, ensuring high standards across all aspects of operations. You’ll be responsible for driving sales, managing inventory, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining full legal compliance, particularly with respect to off-licence regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures.
- Recruit, train, lead, and motivate a team of retail assistants.
- Ensure outstanding customer service is delivered consistently.
- Manage off-licence activities, fully complying with UK licensing laws, including rigorous age verification for restricted products.
- Implement and maintain effective stock management processes—ordering, receiving, rotating, and merchandising all product lines.
- Uphold high standards of visual presentation, ensuring responsible display of age-restricted items.
- Process transactions accurately and reconcile tills.
- Analyse sales performance and develop strategies to achieve targets.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised store environment.
- Handle customer queries, feedback, and complaints professionally.
- Ensure full compliance with retail regulations covering alcohol sales, underage sales prevention, food safety, and health and safety requirements.
- Prepare and manage staff rotas for efficient coverage.
About You
We’re looking for a committed and proactive professional with:
- Proven experience in retail management, ideally within a convenience store, supermarket, or similar fast-paced environment, including significant off-licence experience.
- Solid understanding of UK licensing laws for alcohol and tobacco sales.
- Strong leadership, team development, and performance management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- A customer-focused mindset with a friendly and professional approach.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a problem-solving attitude.
- Ability to thrive under pressure, working independently and collaboratively.
- Confidence using basic computer applications, including POS systems and spreadsheets.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
What We Offer
- Salary: Competitive, £32,000–£38,000 per annum, depending on experience.
- Hours: 37.5 per week, with flexibility to meet operational requirements.
