Location: Merino Lab, Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology (ISMIB), University of Liverpool
Contract Type: Fixed-term (24 months)
Start Date: September 2025
Salary:
- Grade 6, Spine Point 30 (if PhD pending)

About the Role
The Merino Lab at the University of Liverpool is pleased to offer a fully funded Postdoctoral Research position for 24 months, supported by the prestigious Springboard Award from the Academy of Medical Sciences.
This project explores scaling—the ability of developmental mechanisms to proportionally shape organs of different sizes—and how this process may influence tumour growth. You’ll work in close collaboration with the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, gaining valuable interdisciplinary experience at the intersection of cancer biology, developmental biology, and cell signalling.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on scaling mechanisms during tumour development
- Perform experimental and data analysis work in cancer and cell biology
- Collaborate with partner institutions and contribute to joint publications
- Present findings at academic conferences and contribute to lab meetings
- Support junior researchers and participate in lab development activities
About You
We’re looking for a motivated and ambitious researcher with:
- A PhD in Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Cell Signalling, or a related field (or near completion by start date)
- A strong interest in developmental biology and tumourigenesis
- Good communication and team collaboration skills
- A proactive and independent research mindset
If your PhD has not yet been awarded at the time of appointment, you will start on Grade 6. Once your PhD is officially confirmed in writing, you will progress to Grade 7.
