About the Role
Are you an experienced project management professional looking to lead impactful initiatives in a dynamic academic environment?
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Programme Delivery Directorate within Information Services. Reporting to the Head of Project Delivery, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-value projects that enhance services for both staff and students across the University. You will combine strong project leadership with business analysis expertise to ensure the success of large-scale system and service improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple concurrent projects across the University, delivering within agreed timelines, budgets, and scope.
- Manage complex organisational, process, systems, and data projects that impact Colleges, University Services, and central functions.
- Direct and coordinate project teams, including external contractors, by planning resources, allocating tasks, and monitoring progress.
- Develop and maintain robust project plans, ensuring consistent stakeholder engagement, especially with senior staff, academics, and operational teams.
- Implement a proactive approach to risk management, regularly assessing and mitigating risks.
- Maintain quality standards, ensuring all deliverables comply with legislation, University policies, and industry best practices.
- Provide regular reporting to Project Boards and University committees, preparing high-quality documentation and updates.
- Drive process improvement through business analysis and mapping as part of broader organisational change efforts.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Knowledge & Qualifications
- In-depth understanding of change management and project delivery related to systems, processes, and data.
- A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in IT, business, or a related discipline.
- Professional project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
- Solid knowledge of Agile methodologies and the systems development lifecycle.
- Expertise in business process design and mapping.
Desirable
- SCRUM or PRINCE2 Practitioner certification.
- Understanding of the competitive dialogue procurement process.
- ITIL Foundation qualification.
Essential Skills
- Proven ability to manage complex, large-scale projects from initiation through to delivery.
- Skilled in creating detailed project plans and communicating them to teams and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, able to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
- Effective leadership and people management, including experience managing diverse teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in stakeholder relationship management across varied organisational levels.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities under pressure.
Essential Experience
- Demonstrable success in leading strategic projects within large organisations.
- Hands-on use of Agile tools or similar project management software.
- Extensive experience in business analysis.
- Experience delivering data-driven projects with organisation-wide impact.
- Leadership of large project teams, including external partners (20+ team members).
