About the Opportunity

The University of Reading is seeking an exceptional individual to lead our vibrant extracurricular music programme as Head of Music. This is a unique opportunity for a passionate and experienced musician to make a lasting impact on our university community by enhancing cultural life through music.

Part of the External Relations Directorate, our dedicated Music team delivers an exciting and diverse year-round programme of musical performances, events, and activities. These engagements not only showcase the talents of students, staff, and alumni, but also connect the University with wider public audiences. You will lead this team, ensuring music continues to play an enriching, inclusive, and engaging role in university life.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Music, you will:

  • Design and deliver a high-quality extracurricular music programme
  • Lead and direct ensembles and musical groups
  • Develop strategic plans for growth and outreach
  • Organise and oversee events, rehearsals, and performances
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
  • Foster student development and community engagement through music

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong creative, administrative, and interpersonal skills. Evening and weekend work will be required.
