We are looking at an increasing number of engineering programs and projects that require support, including support for legacy propeller systems, current production propeller systems, new product introduction programs, and new technology introduction projects that will propel our propeller systems into the future.

Job Description.

We have an amazing opportunity for an experienced Product Support Engineer to join the Dowty Propellers Engineering Platforms and Projects team, where they will manage the engineering support of current in-service propeller systems.

The successful candidate will be in charge of managing projects and engineering efforts, which may include in-service investigations, design revisions and repairs, manufacturing issue assistance, engineering aspects of product quality, and maintenance manual updates for your propeller platforms. This role will also require you to be the technical point of contact for your propeller system for internal and external customers such as operators, airframers, and service support. This would entail travelling both domestically and internationally to support and present at operator and user group conferences, as well as to support project partners and engineering service providers, as well as to make occasional supplier visits. (Travel is anticipated to account for 10%-20% of total time).

The projects will require extensive mechanical, manufacturing, and hydromechanical control system support, as well as composite design and construction, therefore competence in a variety of these areas will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiating, planning, carrying out, monitoring, and controlling assigned engineering projects, including risk and opportunity management.
  • Technical project point of contact for both internal and external clients.
  • Control the technological requirements of customers, Dowty, and regulatory bodies.
  • Create a detailed project scope definition, work estimates, plans, and timelines as needed to meet project obligations within budgetary and contractual limits.
  • Support bid and proposal estimates by utilising work breakdown structure approaches to estimate labour and material requirements, as well as the company’s strategic planning process, which includes annual budgets, expenditure projections, resource planning, and funding requirements.
  • Obtaining budget approval, kick-off authorisation, and managing Baseline Change Requests as needed to support project activities.
  • Leading cross-functional teams and coordinating project requirements while mentoring assigned staff to help with project execution. Participate in technical and program reviews by presenting or reviewing.
  • Administration and management over design revisions.
  • Monitor and communicate project progress, business concerns, and key developments to stakeholders in a clear and straightforward manner.
  • Lead and support lean initiatives and events.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, systems, or aerospace engineering, or an equivalent qualification
  • Solid project management experience in an aerospace or comparable regulated environment, preferably in a sustaining support capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate and lead cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and sourcing.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience working with external clients.
  • A confident and articulate communicator, both vocally and in writing.

Desired Skills and Characteristics.

  • Knowledge of the aviation regulatory environment, including civil certification standards, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as experience operating under Part 21 Design Organisation Approval.
  • Capability to manage many projects and engineering tasks while maintaining priorities and scheduling obligations.
  • shown expertise in utilising typical Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management tools such as Microsoft Project.
  • A technical background in complicated systems, such as mechanical, aviation control, and/or electronic control systems, as well as experience with hydromechanical control systems, would be helpful.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with a working grasp of Lean or Six Sigma.
