Job Title: Senior Development Engineer

Salary/Grade: £52,380.00 to £65,467, depending on experience.

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, UK.

About IPSD.

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) develops, tests, and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines for over 5000 applications, including marine, petroleum, industrial, electric generators, and locomotives. Caterpillar’s company plan includes sustainability as one of four emphasis areas, and IPSD is involved and actively developing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary

The Component Engineering team is part of the larger IPSD-M engineering team. The Component Engineering team is in charge of the design and mechanical development of all engine components. The Air and Fuel team is in charge of creating components internally and collaborating directly with major component and system suppliers to smoothly incorporate outsourced components into IPSD products. This comprises sustaining current product lines, developing future products (NPI), and researching new and cutting-edge technologies (NTI).

We are looking for a highly motivated and self-starting Senior Development Engineer to work on the Air and Fuel Systems team, developing engine and powertrain components and supporting their integration into Caterpillar products.

Additional Information

  • Hybrid work pattern – Minimum of three days in the office every week.

What Will You Do?

  • Lead the development and testing of Air and Fuel System components for diesel and alternative fuel products.
  • Create, validate, and deploy new components, products, and technologies.
  • The development of functional requirement documents to aid collaboration with key component and system suppliers.
  • Developing test plans for functioning prototypes in a variety of powertrain products using technologies like as FMEA and DVP.
  • Assist design engineers with suggestions and design evolution to increase dependability and durability.
  • Collaborate with the team to share, learn, and expand your and the team’s knowledge.

What You Have

Required qualifications:

  • An accredited Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a relevant engineering subject, or comparable experience
  • Working knowledge engines and related supplementary systems.

Developmental experience:High level of powertrain development expertise:

  • Previous experience with diesel engines, fuel system components, and/or air system components.
  • Prior experience generating and managing FMEA and establishing DVP
  • The ability to manage and manipulate complex facts while drawing conclusions and summaries.
  • Experience with PLM systems (Teamcenter)
  • Regularly supporting peer reviews and collaborating with others to exchange knowledge and develop effective solutions.
  • Using research techniques to solve problems on their own.

Effective communication involves understanding communication concepts, tools, and strategies, as well as applying proper communication behaviours to accurately communicate, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs.
Level: Working Knowledge

  • Effectively communicate with others and interpret their ideas.
  • Write, deliver, and peer-review engineering reports.
  • Adapts papers and presentations to the intended audience.

 

Analytical thinking involves understanding methodologies and tools for effective analysis, identifying core causes of organisational problems, and developing alternative solutions to fix them.

  • Based on historical experience and current research, identifies a wide range of plausible causes.
  • Using existing facts and expertise, conducts a systematic comparison of two or more possible alternatives.
  • Exploring novel simulation methodologies with a continuous improvement mentality will enable future automation and efficiency advantages in the simulation workflow.
