Job Description
Are you an experienced, motivated senior nurse ready to step into a rewarding leadership position?
We are seeking a dedicated Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to guide and inspire our skilled team on a fast-paced 24-bed Respiratory Support Unit that also functions as an acute ward.
In this key role, you’ll deliver expert clinical direction while overseeing daily ward operations. Your focus will be on maintaining excellent standards of safe, compassionate, and individualized patient care. You’ll foster a positive team culture, support staff growth, and drive improvements that benefit both patients and colleagues.
At Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we truly value our people. We offer strong support for your ongoing learning, access to diverse training programs, and a working environment rooted in kindness, teamwork, and a drive for excellence. This is a fantastic chance to shape patient outcomes and contribute meaningfully to the evolution of our respiratory services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing the ward team to ensure smooth, effective operations
- Serving as the clinical specialist in respiratory care, providing guidance and hands-on expertise
- Supporting staff development through mentoring, education, and opportunities for continued professional growth
- Overseeing quality and governance matters, including audits, incident reviews, complaints handling, policy implementation, and monitoring of care standards
- Building strong relationships with patients, families, and carers to promote open communication and involvement in care decisions
- Managing resources efficiently, including budget oversight and staffing allocation
We are an award-winning NHS Foundation Trust serving over 420,000 people across Mansfield, Ashfield, Newark and Sherwood, and surrounding areas of Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. We collaborate closely with partners in health and social care to deliver integrated acute and community services.
Patient care is at the core of our work—we treat every individual with the dignity and respect we’d want for our own loved ones. We also prioritize a supportive atmosphere for staff, encouraging everyone to show kindness, mutual care, and professionalism. As a genuinely clinically-led organization, we’re proud of our achievements: our colleagues have consistently voted us the top acute Trust to work for in the East Midlands in the NHS Staff Survey for seven years, and the Care Quality Commission rates our Trust “Outstanding” for care, with King’s Mill Hospital recognized as the only “Outstanding” NHS hospital in the region.
Important note on sponsorship: Not all positions qualify for visa sponsorship. For details on eligible roles, please check the Skilled Worker visa shortage occupation list on the GOV.UK website. Recent Home Office updates (effective 9 April) mean some applicants switching visa types may no longer qualify, even for shortage-listed roles.
