Role Overview
This is a great opportunity for a motivated and reliable individual to join a healthcare support team as a Housekeeper. In this role, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across patient, staff, and communal areas—supporting both recovery and wellbeing.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in ensuring high standards of cleanliness and food service while showing empathy and respect to patients, particularly those with mental health and learning disabilities.
Important Note on Eligibility
- Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK.
This role does not qualify for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration rules.
Working Pattern
Part-time: 15 hours per week
Shifts: Between 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Days: Monday to Friday
Flexibility is essential, including availability for additional shifts when required
Key Responsibilities
As a Housekeeper, your duties will include:
- Cleaning and maintaining patient rooms, offices, and communal areas
Following infection control, hygiene, and safety standards
Supporting basic catering and food service activities
Using cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and effectively
Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness aligned with NHS expectations
Working sensitively with patients, including those in mental health settings
Contributing to a positive and supportive care environment

Essential Requirements
Qualifications
- Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (or willingness to achieve within 12 months)
Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 (GCSE equivalent)
IT skills at Level 2
Experience
- Previous experience in cleaning roles
Experience using cleaning materials and equipment
Experience working or volunteering in mental health or learning disability settings
Knowledge
- Understanding of health and safety regulations, including Health and Safety Executive guidelines
Knowledge of infection control and cleaning standards
Awareness of confidentiality and patient dignity
Skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
Effective communication skills
Good time management and ability to prioritise tasks
Ability to safely use cleaning and catering equipment
Desirable Criteria
- NVQ Level 2 in Housekeeping (or willingness to work towards it)
Experience in hospital or healthcare cleaning environments
Training & Development
- Successful candidates will complete a structured 5-day induction programme. Ongoing training will be provided, including:
Food safety and hygiene
Infection prevention and control
Safe handling of cleaning equipment and chemicals (aligned with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations)
Compliance & Safeguarding
- This role requires a criminal background check through the Disclosure and Barring Service
You must follow safeguarding and confidentiality policies at all times
