About the Practice

Withington Medical Practice is a friendly, close-knit GP surgery serving approximately 5,500 patients in the Withington area of Manchester. We are proud of our Good CQC rating and our reputation as a training practice, supporting the development of future healthcare professionals.

Our team currently includes:

  • 1 GP Partner
  • 1 Salaried GP
  • 1 Physician Associate
  • 1 Pharmacy Technician
  • 1 Practice Manager
  • 4 Administrators

We work collaboratively within an active Primary Care Network (PCN) and maintain strong professional relationships across local services.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate newly qualified GP (within two years of CCT at start date) to join us for 4 sessions per week under the BMA model contract.

This ARRS-funded post offers an excellent opportunity to develop clinical expertise within a supportive environment, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and take part in multidisciplinary team working.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Salaried GP, your responsibilities will reflect the scope of the GMS contract and enhanced services. Your role will include:

Clinical Care

  • Face-to-face and telephone consultations
  • Home visits when clinically appropriate
  • Duty doctor and triage sessions (on a shared rota)
  • Safe and evidence-based prescribing in line with national guidance
  • Management of long-term conditions and complex care needs

Administrative & Governance Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and filing blood results
  • Managing repeat prescriptions
  • Handling referrals, reports, and correspondence
  • Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records
  • Contributing to audits and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participating in significant event reviews and learning processes

Team & Development Contributions

  • Supporting ARRS staff
  • Supervising and mentoring medical students
  • Participating in practice meetings
  • Contributing to QOF and other delegated clinical areas
  • Engaging in appraisal and revalidation processes
  • Promoting continuous professional development across the team
  • You will share workload fairly and work collaboratively to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a GMC-registered GP with no restrictions
  • Be listed on a CCG Performers List
  • Be within two years of completing GP training (CCT)
  • Have experience working in UK General Practice
  • Demonstrate competence in chronic disease management
  • Be organised, efficient, and able to prioritise workload
  • Hold (or be willing to obtain) an enhanced DBS clearance
  • Have the right to work in the UK (Skilled Worker sponsorship applications welcomed)

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience in elderly care/frailty
  • Interest in LGBTQ+ health
  • Knowledge of EMIS Web (Optum)
  • Leadership or teaching experience
  • Involvement in service development or quality improvement
