Role Overview

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join its established paediatric respiratory team.

This role is open to qualified nurses, allied health professionals or clinical scientists who have completed an Advanced Practice qualification at master’s level. The successful candidate will support children and young people with complex respiratory conditions, delivering expert clinical care while contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives.

The respiratory ACP team has been successfully operating for more than six years and continues to expand to improve outcomes for patients and families. The Trust offers strong clinical supervision, mentorship, and ongoing professional development to support practitioners in advancing their clinical and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Clinical Practice

As an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you will deliver specialist respiratory care by:

  • Performing advanced clinical assessments for children and young people with respiratory conditions
  • Diagnosing, planning and initiating treatments within your authorised scope of practice
  • Monitoring patient responses to treatment using clinical investigations and diagnostic results
  • Delivering safe, effective and patient-centred care for children undergoing respiratory procedures or treatment

Leadership and Clinical Governance

You will also contribute to service leadership by:

  • Acting as a clinical role model within paediatric respiratory healthcare
  • Supporting multidisciplinary teams with expert advice and guidance
  • Promoting evidence-based practice and adherence to national clinical guidelines
  • Participating in service transformation and quality improvement programmes
  • Contributing to clinical audits, benchmarking and service evaluation activities

Education and Collaboration

The ACP will also:

  • Provide clinical leadership and training to colleagues and trainee practitioners
  • Support the development of advanced practitioners within the team
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals across multiple departments and organisations

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Registration with an appropriate professional regulator such as the
  • Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Health and Care Professions Council
  • General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent competency across ACP domains
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to advanced clinical practice
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Training in Good Clinical Practice or willingness to complete it
  • Emergency Paediatric Life Support (EPLS) certification or willingness to undertake training

Desirable Qualifications

  • Clinical teaching or mentorship qualification
  • Leadership training or participation in clinical leadership programmes
  • Required Experience and Knowledge

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Significant experience working in paediatric healthcare settings
  • Experience managing clinical teams or leading departmental activities
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, research and audit processes
  • Experience implementing quality improvement or service development initiatives
  • Ability to support patients and families in complex clinical situations
  • Experience mentoring trainee practitioners or healthcare staff

Desirable Experience

  • Experience managing clinical incidents and complaints
  • Research publications or conference presentations
