The Role — Acute Psychiatry with Strong Clinical Support
This Specialty Doctor post sits within an acute adult inpatient service delivering assessment and treatment for people experiencing severe phases of functional mental illness. You will work on either a 16-bed female ward or a 17-bed male ward, caring for patients with conditions such as mood disorders, psychosis, and complex personality presentations.
The role blends hands-on clinical work with leadership responsibilities in multidisciplinary care planning. You will collaborate with consultants, resident doctors, and allied professionals to provide safe, recovery-focused treatment while contributing to governance, education, and service improvement.

Core Responsibilities
You will:
- Provide daily psychiatric reviews and treatment planning
- Lead or contribute to Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings
- Prepare tribunal reports and participate in hearings
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Participate in ward MDT discussions and care coordination
- Support quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives
- Attend appraisal, CPD, and academic forums
- Contribute to safe governance and operational efficiency
- Support junior medical colleagues within working time frameworks
- Participate in job planning reviews to align service delivery

Person Requirements
Essential
- Full registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Council
- Recognised primary medical qualification
- Minimum two years’ experience in general adult psychiatry
- Commitment to multidisciplinary inpatient care
