Job Description

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a motivated Specialty Doctor to join a busy Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) service serving a population of around 600,000. You’ll work across outpatient, day case, and inpatient settings, delivering modern oral surgery and maxillofacial care within a collaborative, consultant-led team.

The department offers contemporary facilities — including digital imaging, CBCT, and dedicated day surgery theatres — and close working relationships with oncology, dermatology, orthodontics, and restorative dentistry. Depending on experience, there may be scope to join the second-tier on-call rota.

This role combines clinical practice with teaching, audit, and research — ideal for a clinician who enjoys shaping services while developing specialist interests.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide minor oral surgery, management of infections, minor trauma, and soft-tissue procedures
  • Deliver safe, high-quality care in clinics, theatres, and day surgery settings
  • Support and supervise junior trainees, escalating when appropriate
  • Maintain accurate documentation and clear communication with patients and colleagues
  • Contribute to audit, governance, and service improvement
  • Develop sub-specialty interests aligned with departmental needs
  • Participate in CPD and the SAS development programme
  • Teach postgraduate staff and students; support research initiatives
  • Undertake administrative duties linked to patient care
  • Work with consultants and clinical leadership to optimise service delivery

Working Culture & Environment

You’ll join a multidisciplinary team of consultants, SAS doctors, DCTs, and specialist nurses, where kindness, professionalism, and teamwork are core expectations. The Trust promotes reflective practice, learning, and innovation — encouraging clinicians to contribute to service evolution and patient-centred improvements.
