About the Department

The Research Department of Primary Care and Population Health (PCPH) is part of the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care at UCL, led by Professors Kate Walters and Greta Rait.

Our department combines high-quality teaching in community-based primary care and public health with internationally competitive, multidisciplinary research. We focus on understanding, managing, and preventing diseases that affect individuals and populations, contributing to the health priorities of the UK and globally.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow to join the NIHR Research Support Service (RSS) Hub, a collaborative initiative delivered by Imperial College London, UCL, Queen Mary University of London, and King’s College London.

This role focuses on supporting innovation in applied health and social care research. You will advise industry partners and SMEs in health technology, medical technology, and life sciences, ensuring that research findings translate into practical, real-world impact.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing methodological, regulatory, and strategic advice to innovators, clinicians, academics, and health/social care professionals
  • Supporting the NIHR RSS Specialist Service for Industry, helping SMEs and innovators develop competitive funding applications
  • Facilitating routes to market and implementation of novel interventions
  • Acting as a bridge between academic research, healthcare practice, and industry innovation
  • This position plays a pivotal role in translating evidence-based research into solutions that benefit patients and the public.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in applied health research, social care, or a related field
  • Strong expertise in translational research, research design, and quantitative methods
  • Experience developing or reviewing competitive funding applications
  • Excellent consultancy, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks, governance structures, and funding pathways in UK health research

You should be proactive, highly organised, and collaborative, capable of working across multidisciplinary teams and translating innovative ideas into practical health and social care solutions.

Appointment Details

  • Fixed-term funding until 30 September 2028
  • Full-time, hybrid working arrangement
