About the Role

Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and skilled HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology and Blood Transfusion team. Key requirements:

  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Completion of the IBMS Certificate of Competence

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests in haematology and blood transfusion
  • Maintain quality and safety standards for all laboratory procedures
  • Ensure accurate documentation, data recording, and reporting of results
  • Participate in shift rotas, including weekends and bank holidays, after appropriate training
  • Contribute to team development, service improvement, and laboratory efficiency

Person Specification

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of the Biomedical Scientist role and laboratory practices
  • Strong IT and data management skills (e.g., laboratory systems, Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of health and safety, confidentiality, and quality standards

Qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc in accredited Biological/Biomedical Sciences
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • IBMS Certificate of Competence

Desirable:

  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
  • Previous experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting

Professional Development:

  • Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Participation in mandatory training and competency assessments

Work Requirements:

  • Ability to work across a 24/7 shift system once trained
  • Flexibility to work on any Trust site as rostered
