Role Overview
Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse) to join our dedicated 5–19 years team. This is a unique opportunity to influence the health and wellbeing of children and young people across the Bradford community.
In this role, you will lead operational and strategic aspects of a defined caseload, ensuring services are delivered in line with the Healthy Child Programme. You will act as a role model, supporting junior colleagues, implementing service improvements, and fostering partnerships with other agencies to provide the best possible care for children and families.

Key Responsibilities
As a Specialist School Nurse, you will:
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centred care to school-aged children across Bradford and Airedale.
- Lead and contribute to the development of a district-wide school nursing service.
- Manage your own caseload, providing expert advice, support, and guidance to junior colleagues.
- Support, supervise, and challenge practice to maintain safe, high-quality services.
- Work collaboratively with other healthcare, education, and social care agencies to promote health and wellbeing.
- Participate in service evaluation and contribute to research-informed practice.
Qualifications & Registration
Essential:
- Registered Nurse (1st level) or Registered Midwife
- Specialist Community Public Health Practitioner (School Nursing) qualification (Certificate / Diploma / Degree)
- Current NMC registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and training
Desirable:
- Teaching and assessing in clinical practice
- Counselling, family planning, or child/adolescent mental health qualifications
- Experience as a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse (RSCN)
Experience & Knowledge
Essential:
- Safeguarding children and interagency working experience
- Awareness of research-informed practice
- Understanding of health needs assessments and school profiling
- Knowledge of child protection policy and current health, education, and social care frameworks
Desirable:
- Previous experience in school nursing
- Experience managing or immunising children
- Tier 1 mental health assessments/interventions
