About the Opportunity

At University College London (UCL), we believe world-class research and teaching require world-class operational leadership. As one of the most globally respected universities, our ambition is not only to excel academically but also to build an environment where innovation, collaboration, and people thrive.

We are now looking for an exceptional senior leader to take on the role of Executive Director of Faculty Operations — a position that sits at the centre of how our faculties function and evolve.

This is a rare opportunity to influence how a leading global university operates at scale, shaping services that directly support academic excellence and student success.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this strategic leadership role, you will work closely with the Vice-President (Operations) and partner with senior academic leaders to ensure faculty operations are forward-thinking, efficient, and aligned across the institution.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Setting a clear strategic direction for faculty operations across UCL
Leading and developing a network of Faculty Directors of Operations
Driving transformation programmes that improve service quality and efficiency
Championing digital innovation and simplification of processes
Building strong partnerships with academic and professional services leaders
Establishing robust performance, governance, and accountability frameworks
Leading planning, risk management, and operational assurance activities
Representing professional services in senior-level institutional decision-making
Embedding a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and shared purpose

About You

We’re looking for a confident and forward-thinking leader who thrives in complex environments and can deliver meaningful change.

You will bring:

Extensive senior leadership experience in a large, complex organisation
A strong track record of delivering transformation and measurable outcomes
The ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders at executive level
Experience in programme and project leadership
Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills
Confidence in navigating ambiguity and competing priorities
A commitment to inclusive, values-led leadership

Experience within higher education is helpful, but not essential if you bring transferable leadership expertise.

Why Join UCL?

This is more than a leadership role — it’s an opportunity to shape how one of the world’s leading universities operates for the future.

Alongside a highly competitive salary, UCL offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

Generous annual leave (41 days total, including closure days)
A defined benefit pension scheme (CARE)
Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
Family-friendly policies and enhanced parental leave
Access to wellbeing support and employee assistance programmes
On-site facilities including nursery and gym
Travel support schemes such as cycle-to-work and season ticket loans

You will be working with exceptional colleagues in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment.
