Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior doctor to join a busy and supportive Obstetrics & Gynaecology department as a Trust Fellow at ST1/2 level. Based at Musgrove Park Hospital, the role offers valuable clinical exposure across a wide range of O&G services while contributing to patient care, teaching, and departmental activities.

Although this is a non-training post, it provides strong clinical experience within the NHS and can support future career progression.

Working Pattern
Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
No current on-call commitment; however, this may be introduced depending on service needs
Any future on-call duties would be agreed separately

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide day-to-day clinical care for patients under consultant supervision
    Support assessment, diagnosis, and initial management in obstetrics and gynaecology
    Participate in ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and departmental activities
    Assist consultants in delivering safe and effective patient care
    Contribute to audits, quality improvement, and research projects
    Teach and support medical students and Foundation Doctors
    Maintain strong working relationships within the multidisciplinary team

Teaching & Development

You will actively contribute to education within the department by:

  • Supporting bedside teaching and clinical supervision
    Participating in weekly postgraduate teaching sessions
    Attending radiology, pathology, and clinical meetings
    Engaging in continuous professional development

Essential Requirements

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree
    Full registration with General Medical Council with licence to practise
    ALS/ACLS certification (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Completion of Foundation Year 1 and 2 (or equivalent)
    Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
    Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills

Skills & Attributes

  • Competence in history taking and physical examination
    Good organisational and communication skills
    Ability to prioritise workload and manage clinical demands
    Willingness to seek senior support when required
    Commitment to high standards of patient care

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working within the NHS
    Progress towards MRCP or relevant postgraduate qualification
