About the Organisation
The UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC) is a globally respected centre dedicated to advancing knowledge and care in dementia. Based within the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, the centre leads pioneering research into the causes, progression, and management of various dementias.
In addition to research, the centre also runs a specialist cognitive disorders clinic in collaboration with the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London, offering comprehensive care to patients and families.
Role Overview
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated clinician to join a leading research environment as a Clinical Research Fellow. The role combines clinical practice with cutting-edge research, offering exposure to areas such as neuroimaging, biomarkers, genetics, and population-based studies.
You will work across multiple collaborative teams within UCL and affiliated research units, contributing to an innovative project involving participants from the 1958 British Birth Cohort.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct clinical assessments of research participants
Perform and assist with procedures such as lumbar punctures
Coordinate PET/CT imaging and biological sample collection
Support genetic studies and biobanking processes
Contribute to data organisation, validation, and analysis
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across research and clinical settings
Participate in collaborative research projects within UCL and partner institutes
There may also be an opportunity to enrol in a part-time PhD programme, enhancing your academic development alongside this role.
Candidate Requirements
To be successful, you should meet the following criteria:
Fully registered medical practitioner with a valid UK licence to practise
MRCP qualification (or internationally recognised equivalent)
Clinical experience at SHO/ST2 level or above in neurology or a related specialty
Practical experience in lumbar puncture
Demonstrated academic achievement and interest in research
Essential Skills

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team
High level of professionalism and patient-centred care

Salary and Benefits
Salary range: £51,140 – £78,670 per year (including London allowance)
Salary determined based on clinical grade and experience

Appointment subject to background checks (DBS clearance required)
Honorary NHS contract required with UCLH NHS Foundation Trust
