About the Opportunity

The Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts is looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Artistic Programme Manager to help shape the future of its creative programme.

This role sits at the heart of a vibrant cultural centre, supporting the delivery of a dynamic seasonal programme that spans theatre, dance, live art, film, music, discussion, and digital practice. You will play a key role in connecting artists, audiences, and communities—ensuring the Centre remains an inspiring and inclusive space for creativity and engagement.

Working closely with the Head of Cultural Programmes & Engagement, you will help design and deliver a high-quality artistic programme that reflects both local and national cultural priorities, while strengthening relationships with students, artists, and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and curate an innovative, multi-artform artistic programme across performances and events
    Build and maintain strong relationships with artists, creative organisations, student groups, and cultural partners
    Identify and develop new programming opportunities that enhance the Centre’s profile and reach
    Manage end-to-end project delivery, including scheduling, budgeting, contracting, and production planning
    Support collaboration across the Library, Culture & Heritage Division and wider University teams
    Contribute to strategic goals around civic engagement, participation, and cultural impact
    Ensure smooth operational delivery of events while maintaining artistic quality and financial control

About You

We are looking for someone who brings both creative vision and strong organisational expertise.

You will likely have:

  • Proven experience in programming or producing artistic work across multiple artforms
    A background in working within arts venues, festivals, cultural organisations, or higher education settings
    Strong project management skills with the ability to manage budgets, contracts, and complex schedules
    Confidence in building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders—from emerging artists to major cultural institutions
    The ability to balance creative ambition with practical delivery
    A collaborative mindset and passion for public engagement through the arts

About the Division

The role is part of the Library, Culture & Heritage Division, established in 2024 at the University of Sussex. This division brings together the University Library, The Keep archive service, and the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts.

The Centre itself is a multidisciplinary arts venue presenting work across performance, film, discussion, and experimental practices. It plays a key role in the University’s mission to connect research, culture, and community engagement.

  • This role may be eligible for UK Skilled Worker visa sponsorship under SOC code 3416 – Arts Officers, Producers and Directors
    Salary meets current visa going rate requirements (subject to eligibility and tradeable points)
