Overview

We are looking for an experienced, motivated Clinical Specialist Nurse to join our CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Crisis Team. This is a senior clinical role with a strong focus on delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to children and young people experiencing acute mental health crisis presentations.

You will work in a fast‑paced but supportive environment where clinical leadership, expert assessment skills and collaborative partnership working are central to practice. Your role will influence crisis care delivery, support workforce development, and contribute to continuous service improvement.

What You Will Do

As a Clinical Specialist Nurse you will:

Clinical Leadership & Direct Care

• Use advanced clinical skills to assess, formulate and plan care for children and young people presenting with crisis mental health needs.
• Manage a small caseload of complex patients requiring specialist intervention.
• Lead clinical risk assessment and develop clear safety and crisis management plans.
• Offer expert advice and consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues, acute hospitals, education and social care partners.

Team Support & Development

• Provide high‑quality clinical supervision and mentorship to nursing staff and colleagues.
• Play an active role in coordination and delivery of training programmes.
• Lead service development, clinical audit and quality improvement work.

Multi‑Agency Collaboration

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with key partners across health, social care, education and voluntary sectors.
• Promote trauma‑informed, person‑centred, strengths‑based models of care.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Registration

Current professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) — e.g., RNMH / RNLD / RNSC (CAMHS Only).
 Registration requirements explained

• Recognised Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor qualification.
• Trained in clinical supervision and actively providing supervision.
• Post‑registration degree level qualification or equivalent specialist training, plus substantive evidence of professional development at Level 7.

Essential Experience

• Significant experience working with children and young people with complex mental health needs.
• Proven ability in clinical risk assessment and management, including self‑harm, suicidal ideation and behavioural dysregulation.
• Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience in quality improvement activity.

Essential Knowledge

Detailed understanding of:

• Mental Health Act and statutory responsibilities
• Mental Capacity Act frameworks
• Safeguarding children and young people
• Clinical governance and medicines management.
