About the Role

Seafield Veterinary Group is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join its Farm24 out-of-hours team, supporting livestock and equine clients across the rural farming communities of Moray.

This position focuses on emergency farm and equine veterinary work, ensuring farmers have access to professional veterinary support when urgent situations arise outside normal working hours. By having a dedicated emergency team, the daytime veterinary staff are able to focus on preventative care and herd health planning while the night service provides vital emergency response.

The role offers exposure to a wide range of farm emergencies, making it particularly suitable for veterinarians interested in developing their skills in surgical obstetrics and large animal emergency care.

Clinical Work and Caseload

Working within the Farm24 team means handling diverse and hands-on veterinary cases across farms and equine clients in Moray.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Attending livestock emergencies including calvings and lambings
  • Providing equine emergency care when required
  • Performing surgical obstetric procedures
  • Delivering urgent medical treatment for farm animals
  • Supporting farmers with critical decision-making during emergencies
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records and treatment plans
  • Busy periods typically occur during the spring lambing and calving seasons, while quieter summer months offer valuable recovery time.
  • Guidance on farm animal welfare standards in the UK

Working Pattern

This position offers a rota designed to provide an exceptional work-life balance, uncommon in many veterinary roles.

Standard rota:

  • 1 week on duty followed by 3 weeks off
  • Monday–Thursday: 6:00pm – 8:00am
  • Friday 6:00pm through to Monday 8:00am during the on-call week
  • Alternative rota patterns such as 1 week on / 1 week off may also be discussed.

To support the on-call nature of the role, the practice provides:

  • Comfortable accommodation during working weeks
  • A dedicated vehicle for attending farm visits
  • The ability to respond to emergencies from home if living locally

Salary and Financial Support

The practice offers a competitive package designed to attract veterinarians interested in rural emergency work:

  • Salary up to £31,000 depending on experience
  • Up to £7,500 relocation allowance
