UCL Anthropology is equally prestigious, combining teaching and research across social, evolutionary, medical and environmental anthropology.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Lecturer (Teaching) to serve as Degree Coordinator and Tutor for the BA Archaeology & Anthropology programme. Working within a hybrid model, you will be responsible for course leadership, core teaching, academic support and assessment across this interdisciplinary degree. You will work closely with the Institute of Archaeology and UCL Anthropology teams to ensure a cohesive and high‑quality student experience.

This is a full‑time position (36.5 hours/week) appointed from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2028, covering a period of leave for Professor David Wengrow.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to:

  • Lead and coordinate the academic delivery of the BA Archaeology & Anthropology degree.
  • Deliver engaging seminars and lectures spanning social anthropology, social theory, archaeology and material culture.
  • Support student learning and pastoral care as a tutor.
  • Contribute to assessment, marking and quality assurance processes.
  • Participate in relevant departmental activities, meetings and curriculum development.

Your Background & Expertise

We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Holds a PhD or equivalent research degree in Archaeology or Anthropology.
  • Has experience teaching undergraduate students in social anthropology, world history themes, human evolution, archaeology and material culture.
  • Demonstrates the ability to connect ideas across disciplinary boundaries.
  • Shows enthusiasm for fostering interdisciplinary learning that engages with broad questions about human societies.
  • A background in areas that bridge anthropology and archaeology or explore expansive thematic questions is particularly welcome.

  • Starting salary for UCL Grade 7‑8 is within the range £54,931 – £64,644 (inclusive of London Allowance).
