A Human Overview of the Role
This post is designed for a consultant who enjoys balanced obstetric and gynaecological practice while developing a meaningful specialist contribution in urogynaecology. You would join a friendly, high-functioning department that values collaboration, innovation, and patient-centred care.
The urogynaecology service is already well established, supported by specialist consultants, a dedicated nurse team, and a structured multidisciplinary meeting. Your work would span general obstetrics & gynaecology alongside focused pelvic floor care — allowing both breadth and specialisation in everyday practice.
What Your Working Week Would Involve
Core Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Deliver consultant-level care across inpatient, outpatient, elective, and emergency settings
- Participate in a 1:12 on-call rota with consultant-led labour ward rounds
- Lead antenatal, gynaecology, and ambulatory clinics
- Perform theatre sessions including elective caesareans and day surgery
- Teach and supervise junior doctors and trainees
- Contribute to governance, audit, and quality improvement
- Specialist Urogynaecology Focus
- Manage pelvic floor and lower urinary tract disorders
- Run specialist clinics (prolapse, incontinence, pessary care)
- Provide surgical management aligned with Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and British Society of Urogynaecology standards
- Participate in pelvic floor MDT discussions
- Support mesh surveillance and complication pathways
- Help develop modern pelvic floor surgical and ambulatory care models

Essential Professional Profile
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Medical degree with membership of a recognised obstetrics & gynaecology college
- Full registration with General Medical Council
- Entry (or imminent entry) on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT/CESR
- Advanced urogynaecology training or equivalent expertise
- Broad obstetric and gynaecological clinical competence
- Ability to lead services and work autonomously
- Desirable additions include postgraduate academic qualifications, research activity, and experience in service development.
Governance & Safeguarding
This role involves work with vulnerable patients and therefore requires enhanced clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
