About the Role

We are inviting enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrists to join our Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) at Desborough House. This role offers a unique opportunity to provide clinical leadership for adults with complex mental health needs, contributing to the development of integrated care pathways and working in close collaboration with primary care, acute services, and a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Leadership

  • Deliver expert psychiatric care for patients within the CMHT, including complex case management.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, risk assessments, and treatment planning.

Administration & Governance

  • Complete administrative tasks associated with patient care.
  • Contribute to service and business planning, audit, and clinical governance.
  • Participate in annual consultant appraisals and job plan reviews.

Professional Development & Teaching

  • Engage in the Trust’s academic programme, including lectures, seminars, and CPD opportunities.
  • Supervise and appraise junior medical staff, supporting their professional development within Modernising Medical Careers frameworks.
  • Ensure junior staff comply with the New Deal and Working Time Directive.

Compliance & Policy

  • Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Hold Mental Health Act Section 12(2) and Approved Clinician (AC) status.
  • Adhere to Trust policies, procedures, standing orders, and financial instructions.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with the GMC: General Medical Council
  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
  • CCT (or within 12 months of CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc, or other relevant clinical qualification).
  • Liaison Psychiatry accreditation.
  • Approved Clinician status at the time of appointment.

  • Strong leadership, clinical judgement, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to multidisciplinary working and patient-centred care.
  • Ability to mentor and support junior medical staff.
